Commencing December 2nd through December 31st, Board of Assessment Review (BAR) grievance applications will be accepted by the Department of Assessment and Taxation for any property owner who wishes to formally challenge their 2020 assessment through the BAR grievance process. Property owners need to fill out a NYS 524 Grievance Form with supporting documentation and deliver it to Room 101 City Hall. Property owners have the option to have either a hearing or a non-hearing. When a hearing is selected the property owner or representative will be scheduled to make their presentation to the BAR. The Department will be scheduling hearings commencing January 2nd through mid-February and the owner/representative will be notified by mail of the date of their hearing. Should the property owner/representative submit a non-hearing complaint all supporting documentation must be submitted with the complaint form. Property owners will be notified of the results from their BAR hearing after March 1st. Project Announcements ASSESSMENT DISCLOSURE NOTICES FOR THE 2020 REASSESSMENT PROJECT HAVE BEEN MAILED On September 2nd, 2019 Disclosure Notices were mailed to all property owners in the City of Buffalo. The reassessment project on all real property in the City of Buffalo is complete. Residents and business owners will soon be receiving the disclosure notices in the mail. The 2020 Assessment Preliminary Disclosure Notices include assessments based on current market values to ensure that every property owner is paying only their fair share of property taxes. Each assessment disclosure mailer also contains an information sheet on locations, dates and times for Informal Review Sessions where property owners can seek assistance and speak with the project contractor about their specific assessment. If, in your opinion, your preliminary 2020 assessment does not accurately reflect market value, you should schedule an informal review meeting with a representative of ENPM, Inc. by calling (716) 559-1952, no later than October 9, 2019. If you have any questions regarding your Preliminary Disclosure Notice or the informal review process, please call (716) 712-5550. All informal review sessions are by appointment only and will be scheduled during regular business hours, as well as on evenings and Saturdays.
